PREDIL LAKE, Italy | day trip from Kranjska Gora or Soča valley in Slovenia

Predil lake or Lago di Predil on Italian, is one of the more beautiful ones that you can visit as a day trip from Slovenia. The easiest way to reach it is from Kranjska Gora (it will take you half an hour) via Tarvisio (first, you can make a stop at very nice Fusine lakes) and continue towards Predil pass. The second option is to do a day trip from Bovec or Soča valley via Log pod Mangartom. This is also one of the two ways you can take if you want to travel between Kranjska Gora and Bovec, the other one takes you over Vršič pass. I usually visit this lake as a day trip from Kranjska Gora, preferably on a hot summer day, since the climate here is very plesant and there is plenty of shade as well.

This beautiful GLACIAL LAKE near PREDIL PASS in Italian municipality of Tarvisio in located almost 1000m above sea level and is with its size 1400m x 400m one of the larger lakes around here. THE LAKE BANKS are white pebbles and there are a few “beach areas”, the largest one located in the southern part of the lake. Predil lake is surrounded by lush pine tree forests and the views on the Alps are stunning from all sides – my personal favourite spot though is at the SMALL ISLAND in the northern part, not too far from one of the PARKING AREAS and the only RESTAURANT by the lake.

The lake is not only perfect for those seeking PEACE AND QUIET in beautiful natural areas, but also for those who love water sports like KAYAK, CANOEING, SUP and even WINDSURFING or KITESURFING – there can be lots of wind so it´s really perfect for it. There is not all that much going on around the lake in terms of restaurants, bars, playgrounds and such, but therefore it is more peaceful.

It is also possible to SWIM IN THE LAKE, but the water can be of course very cold so it´s only for the brave ones. I suggest bringing a PICNIC basket, relax under the pine trees and just soak up the views for a couple of hours.

On the west banks of the lake you can spot the WINDSURF CENTER with a smaller bar, where you can also RENT EQUIPMENT like kayaks, canoe, SUP or windsurfs. Also, there is a stretch of pebble BEACH and a PARKING as well.

In the only RESTAURANT at the lake, located in the north, you can get a bite to eat or a enjoy refreshing drink – there are table sin the sun as well as in the covered area.

Visiting this lake is a nice way to spend time if you are a fan of peaceful places, love to SUP, simply enjoy the sun rays while having a family picnic or are looking for a stop to rest while tarvelling between countries or regions in this area. Also a great choice for families with smaller kids.
