Since my first publicly published post back in 2015, the blog has accumulated over 500 posts until today, both in Slovenian and in English. Our readers can browse through a large number of comprehensive travelogues, city guides, descriptions of weekend trips and day trips, useful travel tips, posts about travelling with children, (wild) camping, life abroad, outdoor activities and much more. And it is all completely free of charge!
Maintaining such a website takes a lot of time, effort, and ultimately some money as well, but as I love writing and keeping memories in this way it has never never a hard job for me. Primarily this blog is meant for me and my children but at the same time, I’m really happy to share some of our experience and adventures with our readers and thus make it easier for some to plan their trips, inspire others to go somewhere as well or just take someone on a virtual escape.
In order to be able to continue publishing posts and keeping this website updated I also offer different services, collaborations and partnerships with companies.
About us
We are Katja, Charlie, Lu (13 years old), Mila (3 years old) and baby Leo (9 months old), a Slovenian – French – German patchwork family that likes to spend their free time actively in nature. Hiking, camping, cycling, winter sports are our favorite outdoor activities. Sometimes we treat ourselves to big city getaways and tropical beach vacations, but we are in love with overland trips with our old Land Rover Defender, which we converted into a camper. When we are not on the road, we like to be creative at home, garden, cook and eat well. After 10 years of living in Germany, we found home in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, with Mila and Leo while Lu still lives and goes to school in Germany.
Who are our readers and followers?
PLACES AND NOTES BLOG receives between 12k and 15k visitors per month. 90% of visitors come via organic search, around 5% come to the site directly, the others come through social media and other sources. The blog has between 15k and 20k page views per month. Most of the blog’s readers come from Slovenia, followed by users from Germany, the UK, the USA, Croatia and some other EU countries and Australia. The blog is bilingual, 99% of all contributions are published in both Slovenian and English.
Places and notes can also be found on social networks. We are currently most active on INSTAGRAM (4.6k followers), where we share daily glimpses of our life in Kranjska Gora, photo stories from our trips and travels, and much more. We have many active Slovenian followers on Instagram, but due to many years of living abroad and the fact that my partner and I come from different countries, we also have many international followers. Our Instagram account is run mostly on English, for collaboration purposes we sometimes publish stories also in Slovenian. We are also present on FACEBOOK (7.8k followers), where we mostly have a Slovenian audience, but we publish posts in Slovenian and English.
Our content mainly attracts families with children, Slovenians living abroad, international couples and, of course, everyone who enjoys nature, loves taking trips, discovers Slovenia, travels in similar ways as us or is just looking for a good dose of inspiration.
Blog content and posts on social media mostly refer to (family) trips (either by plane or car), road trips, overland trips, converting a vehicle into a camper, weekend trips and day trips in Slovenia with an emphasis on the surroundings of Kranjska Gora, Ljubljana and Piran. A large part of the blog is also posts related to life in Germany, where I spent more than 10 years, and France, where we have a family from my partner’s side. There is also some culinary, gardening and house renovating content.

I am happy to write a travel-themed article, travel photo story or travelogue for your media. The topic of the articles can refer to a specific country or destination, traveling with children (also as a single mother), a certain style of travel (from road trip to backpacking), living abroad and much more. On our blog and social media, I offer the possibility of promoting products that fit our concept. For example, travel and camping equipment (outdoor cooking products, backpacks, bags and other useful travel accessories), hiking and winter sports equipment (sports and functional clothing, sports and hiking equipment), overland travel equipment (equipment and accessories for our LR Defender and products that come in handy on longer overland trips), 100% natural cosmetics (products that can be used on trips and camping, for example soaps, shampoos, sun creams and similar), certain products and accessories for children and other products that can be used on trips, excursions, recreation and spending free time in nature.
I strive for long-term collaborations with companies I trust, or whose story attracts me. I am also happy to support local, smaller companies that offer unique, handmade or Slovenian-produced products. We collaborate with different tourist organizations and introduce lesser-known destinations and places to the public eye through highlighting unique attractions, natural wonders and cultural heritage to attract more visitors.

From time to time we also collaborate with different types of accommodation. We are most attracted to smaller accommodations with special charm, accommodations located in interesting places, eco-friendly accommodations, tourist farms, glamping sites and campsites. - travel lectures
Occasionally I offer travel lectures for libraries, associations, different centers and similar institutions in Slovenia. These are normally held in Slovene language but can also be in English. Lectures include interesting information about a certain destination, presentation of our itinerary and route, impressions from visited places, logistics and a summary of the approximate costs of the trip. Of course, I also show a lot of selected photos, and there is always enough time for questions from audience.
