Weeks go by, and still no new posts. Actually it’s not just weeks, its’s months! Oops. Just today I realized with horror that everything has been quiet over here since October. So maybe it’s time for a short, or not so short, life update. Such posts rarely come out from my side, but now it seems like a good opportunity. So what’s new? Keep reading.
I still have quite a few blogging sins left from 2025.
I haven’t managed to post anything about our October trip to Egypt, or our entire 6-week overland road trip through Turkey and Greece. I’m also behind on Instagram posts, and I’d rather not even start mentioning Facebook because I’m afraid to look over there. The renewal of my web hosting on the server is approaching and sometimes I seriously wonder if I really need to pay those almost 200 euros a year to maintain a blog that I don’t actually earn anything from. And then I say to myself, oh don’t be ridiculous, this blog is practically your fourth child, it’s been a part of you for so long (almost 11 years!) and sometimes writing is actually therapeutic. If I don’t go to the hairdresser, get my nails and eyelashes done, then so be it. Apparently I’ll pay that bill this year too and I intend to write at least five new posts about our past travel adventures by the end of April.
There’s more time for writing again.
Leo recently celebrated his 2nd birthday, and with that, one of the most beautiful and at the same time most tiring periods of my life came to an end. Last week he went to daycare for the first time. And I now have so many free hours that I don’t know what to do with myself anymore. For the first time in five years, I’m not a) pregnant b) at home with a baby, c) pregnant and at home with a toddler, c) at home with a baby and a toddler (omg this one is really bad), d) at home with a baby and in the afternoons with a toddler. I haven’t managed to sleep through the night in five years either. And even though I love them the most in the world, I’m really looking forward to this new freedom.
The second part of this winter will therefore be more about free time, winter sports (yay, I managed to go skiing for the first time after a two-year break), spontaneous morning get-togethers, refreshing and updating this blog, culinary indulgences for us two, and cuddling up in bed with Netflix. A little peace and quiet is in order, even if it’s a little strange at times.
My to-do list is really long.
And my current challenge is to establish some sort of priority scale, because I want to do everything at once and everything immediately. And of course, even though I have most of my mornings free now, that just isn’t possible. But my head is full of ideas and I like that.
You’re probably also wondering about our next travels?
What can I say, we really hoped to be lying somewhere under a palm tree in April, but due to circumstances, we decided to wait a little longer and hit the road again in the fall, like we have for the past few years. But this time, for a change, not with the Defender as we want to go somewhere over the oceans. And we can’t wait, because if it comes true, it will be truly epic. Especially since Mila starts school in the fall of 2027 and we basically only have a good year left for major travel adventures outside of school holidays. Until then though, we may manage one spring trip to France to visit family and one summer seaside vacation in Piran or something similar. Nothing spectacular, so, but we are pinning all our hopes on Autumn months :).
Finally, here’s a few more things.
Every Monday I will dedicate a certain topic and exceptionally write / speak (?) in Slovenian on Instagram. After four years back home in Slovenia, I somehow feel the need to communicate in my native language, even if in a more relaxed, conversational form. The first topic was chosen by you, you were most interested in life abroad or comparing it to life in Slovenia, so I chose exactly that for the first “Slovenian IG Monday”. You also gave me a few interesting ideas, so there will obviously be no shortage of material for debate. If you follow me there and can’t speak or understand Slovene please stick around for the other days of the week and just skip Monday’s stories.
Maybe I’ll open a Buy me a coffee profile. Some of you have written to me several times to do it. But to be honest, it took me quite some time to convince myself. And even now I don’t know if I’m there yet or not. If anyone doesn’t know this platform, it’s a site where you support the work of various creators, including bloggers, with voluntary contributions. These are not some fabulous amounts, it’s really meant as a small thing. If this could cover part of the cost of maintaining this blog for a whole year, where I share loads of useful free content, I would be happy. If there were any leftovers for a coffee or a beer under a palm tree, then I’d be even happier. But as I said, I’m still at “maybe”, so more about this soon.
Once a month I will try to write something spontaneous here on the blog. Well, better said, not only write, but also publish. Because I often write something, but don’t publish it. Did I mention that writing feels therapeutic? If it’s February now, expect another similar life update in the form of a short blog post sometime in March.
Years ago I was writing a newsletter, to which you diligently signed up and I had a really really really good base of readers who received exclusive news from me in their email once a month. Well, and then I had that long break from social networks, which unexpectedly lasted more than a year, and at that time, among other things, I actually deleted the entire mailing list. Stupid me. Maybe I’ll get back into it now. But who even reads these newsletters anymore? I really don’t know if I want to start from scratch, but it’s one of the ideas. Give me some feedback on this topic, please.
That’s all from me for now. I hope to be back soon with posts about our autumn adventures. Until then, I’ll continue to eat well (thanks Charlie!) and enjoy the winter wonderland (thanks Mother Nature!). If anyone comes to our area, you’re always welcome at Maison Lenka.
