December is almost here! Anyone else excited about the upcoming winter? Even though I am a huge summer lover and can stay under the sun for hours and hours I can openly admit that every Autumn I just can´t wait for snow and temperatures below zero. I´ve learned how to ski at a very early age, as many other Slovenian kids do as well and the cold weather was never an excuse for staying at home over the free weekends in our family. So, because this 2020 / 2021 season will be slightly different than the ones before and we´re probably going to spend it in Europe, due to we all know what, I´ve put together a long post about winter activities, events and adventures in Slovenia, my home country. Maybe some of you get new ideas and decide to visit our tiny little country in the winter time for a change. Read more about what all you can see and do there in snowy conditions below.
LÜBECK, Germany | weekend trip to the former capital of the Hanseatic league
Another important and interesting northern German town, only about 70km from Hamburg towards the east coast, which makes a wonderful weekend trip in you live around here or a stop during a longer road trip through Germany. Not only is the city known as the city of seven spires, it is also listed on UNESCO´s World Heritage list and there is plenty of really nice historical buildings to see. It used to be the capital of the Hanseatic league which was an important trade route between various cities and countries. Also, this is the seat of the world famous marzipan products brand, Niederegger. Lots of museums, galleries, restaurants, historical buildings, magnificent city gates a vibrant river promenade area and much more. I´ve had the chance to visit this city on two different occasions, so here´s a post about what all you can see and do in Lübeck.
WINTER CAMPING with a van or camper car | tips and ideas
Snowy landscape, open fire, stars in the sky, good company, tasty food and drinks, a warm blanket and all the peace in this world. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it´s exactly how winter camping can look like. It can of course look completely different on some days and it surely is not always easy. And because road trips and camping might still be easier to pull off this winter in oppose to flying around the world, here´s a fresh post about winter camping with your van or rebuilt car. Of course, you can also go with a tent or a larger motor home with more commodity but we have no experience with those two options (at least not in the winter), so we´re sticking to what we know. Read more about what to think about while preparing / rebuilding your vehicle, about sleeping, hygiene, food and cooking, equipment and gadgets, best destinations for winter cmaping in Europe and other useful things related to this topic.
INDIA – why I love India and why I love it a little bit less
They say, you either love it or hate it. There´s no middle way. So they say. And even though I agree with this on one side, I always like to say that where there is a plus there is usually a minus as well. And despite my instant love at first sight with India, there is also something about it I like a little less. Still, I gladly accept those minuses and the positive lovely side of India prevails. I don´t like the word “hate”. It is so strong and kind of violent so I´m not using it here on purpose. I wrote this post mostly for those who are off to India for the first time, but it might still be interesting to read for those who know it also. So, here´s why I love India and why I love it a little bit less.
BREMEN, Germany | weekend trip to Hanseatic city in northern Germany
Bremen, together with a smaller nearby town called Bremerhaven forms its own German state, which means they also have their own parliament and certain laws. This privilege was given to the cities due to their strong bonds with the Hanseatic League, in which many German cities were involved as well. Besides rich history, Bremen has so much more to offer and I really recommend visiting it. Since I moved to Germany I have been taking trips in this area quite often so I´ve visited Bremen on a few occasions. Therefore it is now finally time to post a few words about what you can see and do there. Read more below.

Travelling, tasty food and a good glass of wine always go hand in hand on my travels, therefore it is about time to write something about this as well. RANGITOTO ISLAND, New Zealand | a day trip from Auckland
During my second time in Auckland with Lu, we had a few unexpected extra days to spend due to flight changes back home. Since this was the end of our 2 months long trip in the South Pacific I really felt like it´s time to splurge and celebrate so we also wanted to squeeze in a day trip to one of the islands in the bay. We have already been to Waiheke before and absolutely loved it – I was really eager to go back there and have some tasty wine, but decided to check out some place new in the end. Rangitoto island it was. The trip to this amazing volcanic island turned out to be a good decision, we both loved it. More about Rangitoto and what you get to see and do there in this new post.
BRIJUNI national park, Croatia | day trip from Fažana in Istria
Visiting Brijuni national park, which consist of 14 islands not too far from Pula in Croatian Istria, is a great idea for a weekend getaway or a day trip while travelling in the area, especially in Spring, Summer or early Autumn. Brijuni islands are mostly known for being a famous protocol and summer residence of Tito, a former Yugoslav president and there are many interesting sites left on Veliki Brijun island from this era. You can check out a Safari park, Dinosaur park, Meditteranean garden, many great archaeological and historical sites including churches, walls, villas and more and relax at one of the beaches. There is also a golf course, a few hotels and restaurants and most of all – really beautiful landscape and healthy climate. You can get there by boat from Fažana. Read more about what you can see and do in Brijuni in this new post.
BEST BEACHES IN THE WORLD | travel inspiration
The sound of the waves, warm white sand under the feet, refreshing drink in the shade of palm trees. For many of us, this is the idea of a perfect holiday. Since the days are getting shorter and the weather can be moody, plus let´s not forget the current epidemic situation, I put together this positive inspiring post about the best and most beautiful beach destinations in the world – not just those tropical ones, I also included some which look completely different. I guess we´re all daydreaming about faraway places since months, so you might find some new ideas here. The places I mentioned are chosen solely based on my personal experiences so far (btw writing this post just made me realise I can really be thankful for so many great travel memories), but since I´m sure there are loads of wonderful places I´ve yet not discovered I will be updating this post as we go.
PREDIL LAKE, Italy | day trip from Kranjska Gora or Soča valley in Slovenia
Predil lake or Lago di Predil on Italian, is one of the more beautiful ones that you can visit as a day trip from Slovenia. The easiest way to reach it is from Kranjska Gora (it will take you half an hour) via Tarvisio (first, you can make a stop at very nice Fusine lakes) and continue towards Predil pass. The second option is to do a day trip from Bovec or Soča valley via Log pod Mangartom. This is also one of the two ways you can take if you want to travel between Kranjska Gora and Bovec, the other one takes you over Vršič pass. I usually visit this lake as a day trip from Kranjska Gora, preferably on a hot summer day, since the climate here is very plesant and there is plenty of shade as well.
