Yay December is here! Anyone else looking forward to holiday season? Well as we all know, this year everything is a little unusual, but still. Maybe we at least get a real winter this season and the snowy landscapes bring us into the right spirit. Since I know that some of you have already set up a Christmas tree, but I also know that certainly not everyone has bought the presents, I have prepared a long list of 60+ gift ideas for all of us, “travel obsessed souls“. Of course, we should al be grateful for our health and everything else we have, but still, this year was definitely not easy for everybody who loves to travel. And because we need to stay positive and because we will definitely be traveling again soon as we used to, I think we will all be happy to get some travel-related gifts this year as well, despite the situation. A couple of years ago Lu and I visited Erfurt, an interesting capital and at the same time the largest city in the German state of Thuringia during a short camping road trip through this part of former East Germany. Charming streets and squares surrounded by typical multi-apartment houses built in the “Fachwerk” style, many cafes, restaurants, museums, churches, over 140 bridges over the river Gera and Flutgraben – although the city has changed and modernized in recent decades, the strong influence of the East is still noticeable. Together with the medieval architecture and rich 1200-year history of the city this makes a very unique atmosphere. Erfurt is also known for its monastery where Martin Luther, a German theologian and one of the most inspiring personalities in Christian history, became a monk in 1505. Not many international tourists come to this part of Germany, though, which is why I liked it even more and it was a truly authentic experience.

Another important and interesting northern German town, only about 70km from Hamburg towards the east coast, which makes a wonderful weekend trip in you live around here or a stop during a longer road trip through Germany. Not only is the city known as the city of seven spires, it is also listed on UNESCO´s World Heritage list and there is plenty of really nice historical buildings to see. It used to be the capital of the Hanseatic league which was an important trade route between various cities and countries. Also, this is the seat of the world famous marzipan products brand, Niederegger. Lots of museums, galleries, restaurants, historical buildings, magnificent city gates a vibrant river promenade area and much more.
