In 2010 we visited BRELA on our DALMATIAN ROAD TRIP, but only stayed shortly. So when we were deciding on where to go this summer, we remembered the nice beaches around here and thought it would be great for Lu also – and we were off. Brela is surrounded by ADRIATIC SEA on one side and the mighty BIOKOVO MOUNTAINS on the other – a really spectacular combination.
OMAN WITH KIDS | 2 weeks road trip with a 1-year old
Children are most welcome everywhere and the LOCAL PEOPLE will be more than happy to interact with them. There are PLAYGROUNDS in most of the places we visited and where there are none, there are enough stones or sand to play with. We found Oman to be a very suitable country for travelling with kids, CAR DRIVING was not a problem and the DISTANCES are not too big. The FLIGHT from Europe was not too long also and there is only 2 hours time difference. In 2 WEEKS YOU CAN SEE A LOT, without making the trip too tiring for the little ones. I would avoid going there in the HIGH SUMMER, because of the extremely high temperatures, but the rest of the year should not be a problem. I must say we did not meet any family travelling around, only quite a few expact families with small children living in Muscat.
OMAN | 2 weeks circular road trip with a rented 4WD car
Our FIRST BIG TRIP OUT OF EUROPE WITH LU. We were deciding on where to go for quite some time and after we excluded all the other destinations on the shortlist, Oman was our winner. Lu was a bit over 1 YEAR OLD and was getting more independent, so we thought nothing can really go wrong. In SPRING it´s still not too hot down there and it´s pretty easy to rent and DRIVE A CAR, gas is cheap, the landscape is awesome and there are almost no tourists. The flight wasn´t too long also and too expensive, plus there is only two hours TIME DIFFERENCE with Germany, which means – no jetlag. What more could you ask for? We did not know anybody who was already there so we got all the information from guidebooks and internet. It turned out to be a great holiday and the genuine FRIENDLINESS OF THE LOCALS made us feel more than welcome.
HVAR, Croatia | 2 weeks summer holiday on Croatia´s most sunniest island
We decided to spent part of this year´s summer on the famous Dalmatian island Hvar, which has the reputation of being THE SUNNIEST ADRIATIC ISLAND and is even amongst the sunniest places in the whole Europe, considering the hours of sun in the whole year. And really, in 2 weeks we were there we had literately no clouds! In the last years Hvar has developed into ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TOURIST SPOTS in Croatia and one can directly see why. There are also many CELEBRITIES stopping here with their yachts every year, there are numerous very good restaurants, bars and clubs in Hvar town, but just a short car drive out of the town you can enjoy nature pure. We decided to stay in a smaller village called ZAVALA, which was much more peaceful. This was also our first family summer beach holiday with Lu, who was just 8 months old at that time.
ISTRIA, Croatia – 1 week summer holiday
I don´t even remember when was the last time I spent a night in a HOTEL in Croatia, since we always stayed either in camping places or private apartments or rented houses, but this time we got it as a gift – a week in Rabac in a very nice hotel. We chose this place because it is close to Slovenia (as we were just on a short visit in the area) and did not want to drive to far and also. We combined the holidays it with exploring OPATIJA and LABIN also, plus we went to an amazing JACK JOHNSON CONCERT in PULA.
UGANDA | 4 weeks backpacking from Kampala to the north, west and south
2 girls, 1 volcano trekking, 34 “almost traffic accidents”, 15 elephants a leopard and 32 hippos, 3 tailor made dresses, 45 eaten avocados, 67 beers, 1 afternoon speaking Slovenian with the locals, 5 spiders in the bedroom and a whole bunch of happy smiling local kids running after us… – one great adventure, one country, UGANDA! Okay okay maybe some numbers are not quite exact, but you get the point.
Why Uganda, who is Danilo and how did I end up in a church on a Sunday?
One afternoon I accidentally bumped into K while I was walking home from Ljubljana´s old town. My dear friend K used to be my co-worker and we have not seen each other for a while now, because I was busy finishing my University thesis and I just had the presentation a couple of days ago. I celebrated the success (got the best note btw., woohoo!) in Prague and was already getting ready for my trip to NYC which was a gift from my parents (thanks again!). So, I meet K in the old town and we started one of those typical conversations you usually do with someone whom you have not seen long time – you know, something like “Hey K, how have you been, what have you been up to, oh we need to grab a coffee sometime soon!”. She replies with similar questions and mentions she is searching for flight tickets to Uganda. I immediately think of gorillas, jungle, snakes and papayas for breakfast, but she interrupts my dreaming with saying: “Yeah, I´m going to Uganda and “nobody” want to come with me – do you want to come?” I bet she just said that, but I instinctively replied: “Why not!”.
NEW YORK CITY, USA | what to see and do in 5 days
The Big Apple. Empire City. Gotham City. The City. Call it like you want to, it´s simply a city everyone should visit AT LEAST ONCE IN A LIFETIME. least once in a lifetime I guess there are many women who would love to be a Carrie Bradshaw, going out for all that delicious food, dancing in the clubs and buying all those shoes. Even if you are not the biggest fan of anything American, this place is worth a visit. I would not want to live here long term, maybe for a year – just because it´s soooo big and there is soooo much to see it´s impossible to suck it all in in just a few days or in a week. Luckily for us, Europeans, the PLANE TICKETS are quite affordable and there are many direct flights to choose from, making it easy to travel over there. The problems begin though, probably already at hotels search – because everything seems very expensive. And you will not be needing the money only to pay tor your ACCOMMODATION, but also for all the other things – and trust me, once you are there you just want to use the opportunity and experience as much as you can.
DALMATIAN COAST, Croatia | 1 week road trip from Split to Dubrovnik
Going to Croatia at least once in the summer time is a almost a must for most of Slovenians, including me. This year we found a week of time in the last moment, so we drove off with my little old car without any fixed plans – we just knew we want to go to Split where we would look for a ferry to an island. Any island, it really did not matter.
THAILAND | 2 weeks backpacking from Bangkok to the SW coast
If you have never travelled somewhere out of your comfort zone before, but you start to feel like the time has come to set off on your first journey somewhere far – Thailand is one of the best destinations you can pick! Why? It´s really EASY TO TRAVEL around, it´s CHEAPER than home (although for Asia, it´s really not all that cheap), there are good flight connections with Europe, the local FOOD is just amazing (but you do get western fast food in many places also), it´s pretty SAFE, people are used to tourists and mostly speak or at least understand ENGLSH. There are enough big cities, small villages, beaches, islands, jungles, mountains, party places and historical sites to choose from – you can mix it like you want.
