Our December 3-days weekend trip to Copenhagen was just one of the best. In this short visit, we have really gotten the impression that we could have easily live here for a year or two. Yes, it is expensive, but yes, it is totally worth the money! We had our share of rain, sun, wind, cold, sweating on the bicycle, delicious smørrebrød, rollercoasters in Tivoli park, mulled wine on the Christmas markets, Lauryn Hill concert, amazing architecture and top restaurants.
RÜDESHEIM AM RHEIN, Germany | weekend trip to the vineyards at the Rhein
Rüdesheim am Rhein is just about 60km from Frankfurt and it is one of the most picture perfect romantic smaller German towns you can imagine. Surrounded by vineyards, it has an important role in the German wine making industry and for a wine lover like myself it was really one of the best spots to visit in the whole country.
PREROW, Germany | 3 days camping holiday at the Baltic coast
Have you ever been to the German Baltic coast? Probably not, right? Well, we´ve been quite a few times and I have to say it is pretty nice even though the sea is much too cold for my spoiled Mediterranean soul. It was the first September weekend and the weather was still looking good so Lu and me packed up the tent and drove off all the way up to the city of Rostock. We spent 3 days on the coast, staying at the beautiful Regenbogen camping site in Prerow.
SEYCHELLES | La Digue, Praslin & Mahe islands in 8 days
After quite a long break from a tropical beach we were finally off to one this April. To Seychelles. This time it was the 3 of us again. In 8 days we visited La Digue and Praslin island and had one full day on Mahe island before we flew back. The warm temperatures and the hot sun were just what we needed after this cold and grey winter. Read more about some practical advice on how we travelled and what we´ve seen in a new post.
THE NETHERLANDS | 4 days Spring road trip
For this year´s longer Easter weekend we finally made it over to the Netherlands in the tulip season. We could not have picked a better time, the weather was sunny all the 4 days, with over 25C which is very unusual for this part of Europe. And having just returned from the Seychelles a couple of days before, we were more than happy about this summer feel. As we live close to Hanover, Germany, the way across the border was not all that long which made this a nice short road trip. The first proper road trip with our new LR Defender!
I quit my job! Now what?
So, big news. I quit my job. I will only be driving to the office for 25 more times. Yes, I´m counting them. I have been considering doing this basically since last summer and was going back and forth in my head about it. How will I live? And where? Will I have enough money? Can I pay the health insurance? What about the taxes? What about Lu? Should I really do this? Can I really afford to do this? Million questions.
VANUATU | camping on Espiritu Santo island
After almost 2 months of travelling from busy SINGAPORE, over paradise COOK ISLANDS, hopping the wonderful YASAWA islands on FIJI and exploring volcanos and ancient tribes on TANNA in Vanuatu, we were facing THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS of our trip. And for that we chose this amazing island in Vanuatu. Which quite unexpectedly turned out to be one of the HIGHLIGHTS of our trip.
VANUATU | Yakel Kastom village overnight stay, Tanna island
After landing in Port Vila and spending a couple of days on EFATE ISLAND, we flew to TANNA. This smaller VANUATU island is known for its untouched NATURE and TRADITIONAL LIFESTYLE of the local population. Many of the island´s residents live in so-called KASTOM VILLAGES where a more modern way of life is intentionally restricted. We booked our accommodation for the first 2 nights in advance and decided to see later what we want to do after.
MT. YASUR VOLCANO, Vanuatu | climbing an active volcano on Tanna island
The ACTIVE VOLCANO Mt. YASUR on TANNA island was one of the main reasons why we eve considered visiting VANUATU. It is one of the most EASILY ACCESSIBLE active volcanoes in the world. And wouldn´t that be great if I could have this experience watching hot lava exploding from craters with Lu next to me? I was convinced. We had to go there during our longer South Pacific trip. And now that we did it, I can only say this really was one of the HIGHLIGHTS of the whole trip.
FIJI | KUATA ISLAND, Yasawa islands
Fiji was the THIRD COUNTRY on our almost 2 months long trip around SOUTH PACIFIC. One mom and one 6 year old. After visiting friends and family in SINGAPORE and RAROTONGA, Cook islands, we were truly on our own in Fiji. After a couple of days in busy NADI, we sailed over to the YASAWA ISLANDS and chose KUATA island as our last stop, after Drawaqa and Matacawalevu islands.
